Genesee County Clerk is Michael J. Carr. The County Clerk of Genesee holds records of births, marriages, and deaths that occurred in Genesee County and were filed since 1867. Thos who wish to obtain a copy of a record of a vital event that occurred in another county must contact that County Clerk 's vital records office. In order to obtain a copy, residents of Genesee County must include sufficient information on the application about the record requested. This will allow the Clerk‘s office to locate the record.

Anyone is eligible to receive a certified copy of a death, marriage or divorce record, if they make the request in writing and prepay the required search fee. For those who where born prior to October of 1978 and their mother was not married at the time of their birth they must contact the State of Michigan 's vital records registry. The following parties are eligible for a certified copy of a birth record according to the MCL 333.2882(1)(a)): The person named on the record, and a parent named on the record.
