Genesee County Sheriff is Robert Pickell. The Genesee County Sheriff Office is comprised of the following 7 Divisions: Administration, Law Enforcement Division, Court Services Division, Corrections Division, Records Division, Volunteer Division, and Consumer Protection & Fraud Division.

The Law Enforcement Division is composed of the following seven units: General Road Patrol, Traffic Division, Computer Crime Unit, Posse Drug Team, Paramedic Division, Marine Division, and K-9 Division. The Genesee County Jail is under the Corrections Division and utilizes all cost effective alternatives to incarceration, consistent with public safety and protection of inmate rights. Under a staff of 146 Correction Staff, 20 Support Personnel, when such alternatives are not applicable, inmates are incarcerated in a constitutional, secure and humane environment. The Records Division maintains records for the Jail, Crime Reports, and traffic accidents. They also issue handgun purchase- permits, and pistol registration. Permits to carry a concealed weapon can also be obtained.
