Genesee County Colleges are the following four: Baker College of Flint, Kettering University , Mott Community College , and University of Michigan - Flint .

Mott Community College is accredited by the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. Mott Community College was established Flint Junior College in 1923. On September 23, 1923 , the first class of what would become Mott Community College was held. The new $40 million facility opened in September 2002 and drew over 1,300 students its first semester. This College offers over 100 different Academic and Occupational Programs. The following nine Academic Divisions are offered: Business, Counseling & Student Development, Fine Arts, Health Sciences, Humanities, Information Technology, Science and Math, Social Sciences, and Technology.

The University of Michigan-Flint , one of three campuses of the University of Michigan and its establishment can be traced to 1944. In September 23, 1956 Flint College opened its doors to 167 junior students. The facilities of the University of Michigan-Flint are housed on the 72-acre Riverfront Campus located on the north and south banks of the Flint River . Undergraduate programs of study lead to the degrees Bachelor of Arts (BA), Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA), Bachelor of Science (BS), Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS), Bachelor in Interdisciplinary Studies (BIS), and Bachelor of Music Education (BME) from the College of Arts and Sciences; Bachelor of Arts (BA) and Bachelor of Science (BS) from the School of Education and Human Services; Bachelor of Science (BS) and Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from the School of Health Professions and Studies; and Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) from the School of Management.
